The 3-star (TGCSA) self-catering accommodation is simple and sweet, offering value for money.  Sleeping 6 guests altogether, the cottage features two bedrooms (one with bunk beds), two bathrooms, and two further single beds on the enclosed verandah.

The living area comprises of comfortable lounge and dining room open-plan to well equipped kitchen.  Facilities include washing machine, tumble drier, microwave, TV with DSTV and a radio/CD/tape player.

The small enclosed and private garden is charming and has a sparkling pool and optional safety net, shady gazebo with table and benches for outside dining, sun-loungers, sun umbrella, and built-in barbeque. There is also a remote-operated single garage.

We love this little cottage and everybody who has stayed here loves it, too. By day it’s a sheltered, restful haven in a beautiful and mellow setting, and at night the sea is sometimes so loud it’s as if you’re sleeping in the dunes.

Kommetjie is a magical place with all necessary facilities close at hand, just 40 mins from Cape Town and the Waterfront and 50 mins from Cape Town International Airport. You can watch the fishing boats come and go at Die Kom, take a walk to picturesque Slangkop lighthouse or visit the crayfish factory beyond. You can surf world famous waves, take endless wild beach walks and ride horses in the breakers.

Very close to Kommetjie, there is Imhoff’s Farm which offers lots of entertainment for both young and old alike. Activities ranging from horse riding to visiting the snake park or animal touch farm. Or if you just want to relax, have a lovely lunch at Blue Water Café while enjoying the magnificent views across to Hout Bay.

Under The Milkwood is nestled into what is termed the “Old Kom”, a protected bay where traditional fishing boats bob up and down on the water and crayfish can be bought fresh from the sea during the summer months. A scenic walkway runs the length of this boulder enclosed bay all the way to Slangkop Lighthouse, the highest lighthouse in the southern hemisphere.

With three bedrooms (one double bed, two single beds and one with a children’s bunk bed), two off-suite bathrooms, open plan living areas and separate patio and sun room, there is ample space for everyone to get their piece of this beach side paradise. The white sands of Long Beach are only a 5–7 minute walk from the cottage, ideal for swimming, surfing and fun in the sun (beach towels, umbrella and picnic basket are supplied). Or simply relax on the sun loungers on the patio.

The main lounge (with satellite TV) and kitchen area are open plan with glass doors leading into the informal lounge and dining areas. This entire area opens up via sliding glass doors onto the garden with its beautiful Milkwood trees, a rare protected species here in South Africa.

The attraction of Unwind is that its a great all-rounder.  The accommodation is as neat as a pin, newly furnished and upmarket.  The house is a 2 minute walk to the beach and offers sea views, and a large swimming pool which is enclosed and very private.

The house is a double story home, as the design of the property has the living areas upstairs, which makes the most of the views. There is a wonderful, large covered balcony with beautiful sea and mountain views, absolutely ideal for outdoor dining and relaxation. The upper lounge also has wonderful sea views and is open plan to a small dining area and well equipped charming kitchen.  On this level are also 3 of the 4 bedrooms – all of these open onto the large outdoor balcony.

Downstairs is a family lounge with TV & DSTV, as well as the 4^th bedroom with en-suite bathroom.  Access to the garden is from this area, and the garden contains a lovely sparkling large swimming pool which is very private and unusually big for a Kommetjie property. 

Overall, Unwind is a winner for all of its great qualities – value, simple but neat and charming, lovely views, location and great pool!
